The segment runs entirely, completely downhill, on the winding provincial road 99 bis of the province of Foggia, a disused part (due to the poor condition of the road surface) of the former state road 303 of Formicoso. The road begins at the crossroads on provincial 99, a few hundred meters downstream of the border between Campania and Puglia, and ends at the bridge over the Ofanto river, on the border between Puglia and Basilicata. The route roughly follows the route of the Appian Way, which probably crossed the same hilltop from which the Campania border passes and descended to cross the river at approximately the same point as the modern bridge.
