The Protestant church history "of our place is linked to the history of the ducal house, which was owned by the local castle.
Our church chronicle reports on the reconciliation of the strictly Catholic Duke Heinrich with his son Julius, who was devoted to the Lutheran faith, in the castle of Hesse. This reconciliation came about soon after the birth of the prince and heir to the throne Heinrich Julius (October 15, 1564), "whose smile completely returned the grandfather's heart to his father".
Under the influence of Duke Julius (died 1589) the Protestant faith will have found its way into Hesse, because since the Reformation the subjects accepted the ruler's faith.
Our church was built in Halberstadt, probably by Bishop Haymo around the year 850.
In the sources available to us, a church building is first mentioned again, which was probably built around 1600.
It is the church that is still depicted on old church seals and that stood in the same place in front of today's centenary church.
The old church is said to have been a single-nave Romanesque basilica and was dedicated to St. James.
Our church today is also a St. Jacobi church.
Construction began on April 11, 1859.
It was completed in 1860.
