For adults certainly not really a top highlight, if you are traveling with children, you can make sure of a top story. In addition, located directly on the Hexensteig, there are countless opportunities here. If you come up the witch's path and see the grotto from afar, then it's pretty interesting. So that's worth a detour.

The almost square rock space was carved into the rock by human hands. The entrance used to be closed with a door. The idea of the crypt in the forest came from a man who could afford this luxury in the last 19th century. Bonaventura Rolands ended up in Tecklenburg from Belgium. He bought the Hülshoff estate on the southern slope of the Brochterbeck mountain. Whether he actually found his final resting place in the rock tomb that bears his Germanized name is unknown ...

After some distance through the Tecklenburger forest on the slope of the Teutos, the path leads steeply and narrowly up to Roland's grave, which stares gloomily and ominously at the hiker like a wide-open jaw. The almost square rock room was carved into the rock by human hands. The entrance used to be closed with a door.

Legend of Roland's grave
In a shady beech forest, not far from the old manor house Marck, lies the burial place of the former residents of this house. It's a small mausoleum.
Years ago, a master craftsman was commissioned to paint the coffins inside the mausoleum. He went there with a young apprentice. Both worked diligently all day.
The apprentice was to paint the last coffin alone in the evening on the instructions of the master. The master went away, lost in thought, slammed the heavy oak door behind him and didn't think that he alone had the key to it in his pocket. While working, the apprentice had not noticed that the door had slammed shut. When he had finished his work, he wanted to quickly leave the horrible place, in which the twilight had already made him feel uneasy. He rushed to the door and found it locked. He shook and tugged at it, but couldn't open it. He knocked and called; nobody heard him. Only the trees of the forest rustled and the frightened birds flew around the barred window. Then a desperate horror seized the abandoned boy; his anguished weeping died away in the night. When he didn't come home at the usual hour, his parents went looking for him. But only late in the night did they think that he might still be in the mausoleum. They went there with Master and found him lying in a corner of the gloomy room. The fear of the long lonely night had killed him.
