The peak of the Puig de la Creu mountain, 668 meters high, divides between Sentmenat and Castellar del Vallès. It offers a complete perspective of the region, with views of the massif of Sant Llorenç and also of Montserrat, and there is a set of buildings, including the hermitage of Santa Maria del Puig de la Creu.

The 12th century Romanesque chapel is the oldest building in the whole complex. It is a rural chapel without ornamentation, with only one nave with two semicircular lateral apses, forming a clover with the central one. It is dedicated to Santa Maria (de la Cruz), the Virgen de los Dolores.

The building is mentioned for the first time in a donation by Guillem de Montcada and his wife Guillermina at the monastery of Sant Cugat in 1192. From 1337 until the 18th century Sant Cugat was the one in charge of maintaining the building. In the 15th century, it had two altars dedicated to Sant Mateu and Santa Margarida. Until the end of the eighteenth century, it seems that in this church there was an assembly. As of these dates, it enters a process of abandonment. In 1822 it was tried to make some reforms, but it was not until 1925 that they began, with a building practically in ruins. The back-up units, and the roof were reconstructed. And more recently, it was rebuilt again and the tower and bell tower rose, where it seems that there had been one. Its current appearance, however, seems to have little to do with what it had in its origins. Currently it is privately owned. Traditional, Spanish and sentmenatencs and on Good Friday.
