Is Arutas is one of the most characteristic beaches in Sardinia because the sand is made up of fine and rounded grains of quartz that look like grains of rice. Often battered by strong winds, be careful when swimming also because the sea immediately becomes deep.

Going westward from the s.p. 7 (the provincial road no.7), about 6 km away from San Salvatore in Sinis, Is Arutas beach extends for several kilometers and has a transparent sea that shows all the colours between the green and the deep blue. It is known as the "rice grain beach", because the sand consists of small quartz grains, with shades ranging from white to green or pink. The seabed, immediately deep, is suitable for snorkeling.
It is still a wild and unpolluted area: it guarantees the basic services, but is not a destination for mass tourism (luckily!).
In front of the beach, you can see the characteristic shape of the uninhabited island of Mal di Ventre, a protected naturalistic paradise where sea turtles nest and whose depths hide the wrecks of different times.
