Built in 1899, Lonehort Battery was the largest of seven gun installations built on Bere Island by the British Admiralty. The battery protected the fleet when stationed in the sheltered Berehaven Harbour. As well as the guns, the site also comprised barracks, ammunition stores and watchtowers.
