Sending Castle has been carefully restored for years. Construction site tours at the castle and through the park are offered again and again. The castle on the 100 Castles Route has a particularly beautiful location on the Stever and Dortmund-Ems Canal.

In the Middle Ages, the manor of Senden was owned by the von Senden family called Benekamp under the name of Benekamp. The heir to this family, Kunigunde, married Alexander (Sander) Droste zu Kakesbeck (1357-1401). His father Albrecht was a brother of Heinrich Droste zu Vischering, the progenitor of the later barons and counts Droste zu Vischering, who to this day a.o. reside at Vischering Castle, the Darfeld moated castle and the Erbdrostenhof in Münster.

Water Castle 🏰 Senden is among the smaller of many water palaces in the Muenster region dating to the middle ages struggling with maintenance. The adjacent Stever river feeds the palace moat. The Dortmund-Ems canal was routed about 250 Meter past the palace. Check for curent updates on access and guided tours:
