The Astronomische Vereinigung Aarau - AVA - celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005 as an active club. It is a section of the Swiss Astronomical Society (SAG), the umbrella organization of Swiss amateur astronomers.
Our currently approx. 120 members come from the agglomeration of Aarau as well as from the further catchment area Mittelland and adjacent Jura. They belong to all walks of life and professional groups, but they have one thing in common, the joy of diversity and beauty that the night sky reveals to us. Amateur astronomers share the joy of the universe and the exploration of their scientific connections. Our activities cover many fields of research and interest, for example:
Observations and astrophotography
Construction of telescopes and other observation devices
Theoretical astronomy and astrophysics
Space travel and radio astronomy
Historical astronomy and much more
A very important concern for us is the public relations. With different occasions and activities we want to make the fascinating world of astronomy accessible to a broad public. With the new building of our observatory on the Schafmatt we have another excellent opportunity to bring the stars closer to our members, school classes and visitors.
