St. Martini et Nicolai was first mentioned in 1332 and is one of the tallest structures in the Old Country. The bronze sculpture of the monk and priest Heinrich reminds of the cultivation and settlement of the Old Country in the 12th century.

Steinkirchen leads her in her coat of arms and is famous for her Arp Schnitger organ.

The church stands in the middle of an old cemetery on a flat bay next to the main road. As early as 1332 she is mentioned in a letter of indulgence from Pope John.
The oldest parts of the church can be found in the apse, on the west wall (tower side) and in the north wall (field stone walls). Around 1500, the stone church with flat roof was changed into a vaulted brick building. 1687 - 1785 is a renewed conversion into a baroque hall church. The church receives its Priechen (galleries), the half-timbered buildings as staircases (north side) and the "bridal house" (south side). In 1687, the Arp Schnitger organ was inaugurated. In 1696, the 47 m high, wooden bell tower was added; he is not connected to the nave. In 1773 the church got a stucco decorated wooden barrel vault and a mansard roof. The windows were renovated in a circular arch. In 1985/86, the church and the tower were completely restored.

Since May 1993, next to the church is a 2.20 m high bronze figure of the sculptor Carsten Eggers. The sculpture of the monk Heinrich is a symbol of the Dutch colonists who started to cultivate our land in the 13th century. This memorial was financed with donations and a subsidy from the municipality.

To Steinkirchen (1 Erw.1332) was built on a Wurt / Warft of field stones instead of wood. It was rebuilt and extended around 1500 as a brick church - from 1687 to 1785 as a baroque hall church. The tall wooden bell tower dates back to 1696 and is not connected to the church. The Baroque style of the church, since the 16th century, dominates in the interior of the church. Worth seeing are u.a. the organ was built by Arp Schnitger and inaugurated in 1687, it is one of the most valuable and largest organs in the Old Land - the galleries and the ornate pulpit altar, he was created in 1784/85.
