When the rails of the old port railway were dismantled in 2008, students of the Hochschule für Gestaltung (University of Design) campaigned for the preservation of a section about 300 meters long at Schlossstrasse. And they won the city of Offenbach for the idea: The cultural track on the banks of the Main - a place where people meet, where people come into conversation. A place of inspiration. At the heart of this idea is an old freight car - scene of cultural events and political discussions, which since 2008 take place there several times a week under the direction of HfG students.
Since 2010, the double helix of graduate designer Frank Flaskämper marks the other end of the cultural track. Flaskämper is a graduate of the product design department of the HfG. His large sculpture of rails and sleepers recalls the shape of the human genome.
