The Harpstedter Wassermühle is located directly opposite the Amtshaus - originally there was a moated castle from the 13th century. The history of the mill has always been closely linked to the eventful history of the castle. The threat of destruction in the Thirty Years' War could only be averted at the last moment.

The mill was rebuilt from scratch in 1712 - an inscription on the east side commemorates the date of construction. At that time, the grain mill had two grinding gears and probably two water wheels.
In 1882 the water wheels were replaced by turbines, which were later used to generate electricity. Harpstedt was supplied with electricity from here until the end of the Second World War. The mill was in operation until 1962. Today the mill belongs to the hotel "Zur Wasserburg" as a restaurant and cafe. A non-operational water wheel is still reminiscent of the old days.
