The NSG "Großer Weidenteich", about 4 km west of Plauen, is the largest and most species-rich nature reserve in the Vogtlandkreis with 335 hectares. The large willow pond, which gives it its name, forms a self-contained larger pond area with the small willow pond, the hut, stone and pitch hut pond, which is unique for the Vogtland in its effect as bird breeding and resting waters and embedded in large, extensively used grasslands.

In GDR times, the Russian armed forces were very active in practicing here, but today they are unfortunately doing it very real in their own country, to the chagrin of everyone. But nature has overgrown many devastations and it is a beautiful area for hiking, covering the whole area NSG large willow pond.
