Incidentally, there is an oak tree on the property that is over 800 years old.

The Breide knights are said to be the first owners. Over time, the Krieseby estate was owned by the Wohnsfleth, Otte, von Ahlefeld and Kühl families, among others. Jürgen Kühl has been in charge of the Krieseby estate since 1992. This means that the Krieseby estate is now in the fifth generation of the Kühl family. Hinrich Kühl first acquired the estate in 1847, and it has been owned by the Kühl family ever since.

Kriseby Estate – Historic Estate on the Schlei

Kriseby Estate is a former manor house and estate complex in the Schwansen region near Kappeln (Schleswig-Holstein). Today, it is primarily known for the Kriseby Stud Farm, but the estate itself has a long aristocratic and agricultural history.

History of Kriseby Estate

1. Middle Ages & Early Modern Period

The name "Kriseby" probably comes from Danish ("Krisby" = "Christ Village") and indicates early settlement.
The estate was first documented in the 16th century as a fief of the Danish crown.
It was one of the noble estates in Schwansen, which primarily engaged in agriculture and livestock breeding.
2. Golden Age in the 18th and 19th Centuries

In the 18th century, the estate was managed by the noble von Rumohr family, who developed it into a model estate.
During the 19th century, the property changed hands several times, including the von Liliencron family (related to the poet Detlev von Liliencron).
The current manor house (a simple, neoclassical building) dates from this period.
3. 20th Century – From Estate to Stud Farm

After the First World War, the estate declined in importance, and agriculture was modernized.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the property developed into a stud farm, as horse breeding became more lucrative than traditional farming.
The manor house was privatized, while the land was used for horse breeding.
