The city wall is a must see as an almost completely preserved medieval relic. She never had to exhaust her warlike potential, but at least she protected from a flood 😎

Walking on the wall, Passeggiata della Mura.
Built between the years 1504 and 1645, Lucca's city wall, 4.2 kilometers long and 12 meters high, is one of the best preserved fortifications in Europe. At their bastions (baluardi) there is at most one more fight for football goals, while at the same time a large number of civilians take their siesta under the plane trees on top of the wall. You can even explore the fully passable structure with a (rental) bicycle. The view is enchanting - of the supposedly 99 churches of the episcopal city, between which the streets still run as in ancient times - one place even has the oval shape of the Roman amphitheater - but also of the mountains all around.
