      In the summer months it is possible to sail the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal with the tow ship Alma Viktoria. The start of the “Alma Viktoria” (built in 1933) is lock 25 in Mühlhausen, incidentally the only lock still in operation on the Ludwig Canal. A leisurely journey into the past begins here.

                  The tow ship Alma Viktoria is 21.00 meters long, 3.85 meters wide, 1.00 meters deep and weighs around 20 tons. It is essentially made of steel. The hull is riveted, has a flat bottom, a round bilge, an open, uncovered hold that was later built over and is now equipped with benches. Because there was no possibility of turning on the narrow canal, the ship was equipped with two oars. It has no engine and is pulled along the towpaths by a draft horse

                  The ship was built in 1933 at the Regensburg location of the Christof Ruthof shipyard under the construction number 1058 for the then Regensburg River Engineering Office, which had ordered a dredger. Since the 150th anniversary of the opening of the canal in 1995, the Alma Viktoria has been used as a tourist attraction.

                  The owner of the ship is the Regensburg Water Management Office.
