The world forest rightly bears its name. The forest is divided into the various continents and the trees and plants also come from the respective continent. Worth a detour in every season.

The arboretum was built on the deserted village of Oberberghausen, of which essentially only the church of St. Clement is preserved. The land was acquired by the state in 1883, and the buildings were demolished in subsequent years. In addition to a demonstration and experimental garden for pastures, pastures were cultivated on large areas. Since the economic success failed, the area was reforested from about 1900. In addition to spruce trees, some exotic trees (eg Douglas fir and Weymouth pine) were also planted.

In 1987, the plantings for today's arboretum began. The hurricanes Wiebke and Vivian complicate the work, as they devastated large forest areas. Originally designed for the scientific purposes of the two universities in Freising, the arboretum has been open to the public since 2011 under the name Weltwald. Among other things, circular routes and information pavilions were created.
