    Beautiful strip! The northern part is a bit overgrown in places, but more than fine on 25mm tires. The southern part is nicer, but that results in more bouncing and harder work. ;) An absolute must for lovers of boulders and cobblestones!

      The longest cobbled strip (not cobblestones of course) in the Netherlands! About 6 km long of bumpy round boulders straight through the area of Staatsbosbeheer (and therefore with the matching name Staatsbos). The boulders are not always clearly visible everywhere ... in various places nature is slowly taking over this cobblestone road. Just like in other places in Drenthe, by the way. Good to cycle on a gravel bike or mtb, but you actually have to go over this with your racing bike ;-)

        The longest cobblestone strip in the Netherlands called Staatsbos. The strip is just over 6 km long and runs parallel to the Nije Hemelriek through the forests of the Unesco Geopark de Hondsrug. The north side of the strip contains some overgrown grass and the south side is particularly well placed. A serious highlight for all types of bicycles. Even on a racing bike, this stretch is good to ride if you are not afraid of some bumps

          The longest cobbled section / pave in the Netherlands!
          A continuous cobbled strip of 6 km straight through the Staatsbos. Beautiful route, but for real Flandriens. From the southern route to the information center of the Boomkroonpad, the strip looks good with classic Drenthe flinten (boulders). More to the north, the strip is partly sunk into the ground, making the route a bit more sandy. A gravel bike is ideal for this.
          This is what you call a hidden gem!

            The roughness of the road, combined with the length makes it a worthy 'cobbled' road to tackle.

            However these roads are often referred as cobbled, locally they are know as 'Flintwegen' (Boulder roads). Since cobbles are more square shaped and often bigger, the stones in these roads are more rounded and vary highly in shape and size.

            It is just a minor details, because this road straight through the woods will give you that ultimate roubaix feeling. Especially in your hands, feet and your bottom ;-)
