Griendtsveen Edewecht peat works

South of the Küstenkanal in the Edewecht district of Husbäke is the Edewecht plant of Griendtsveen AG. It was largely rebuilt in 1996 on the site of the former Sevin peat works. Its 600 mm field railway was dismantled and replaced by a new 900 mm gauge railway. The plant reaches the Vehnemoor, where peat is mined in the immediate vicinity of the Klasmann-Deilmann mining areas. The two route networks have several crossings and a track connection.
The locomotive fleet is varied and also includes modernized machines or machines that have been heavily modified in-house. Since many locomotives are in the inaccessible moor and do not drive to the plant at weekends, you only get to see a part of them during visits. At the plant itself and on the connecting route to the Vehnemoor, the field railway operation can be easily observed from public areas.
