As well as a climb, the Ranger's Path is probably the most celebrated of the mountain bikeable descents of Snowdon. Immensely rewarding, fast with a liberal scattering of techy, thrutchy sections.

If you manage to clean the whole thing, you're doing exceptionally well, but even if you decide to walk a few sections, they're not long, and there's still plenty more fun stuff below you.

Do watch out for walkers, though, and beware of the Voluntary Cycle Agreement which bans bikes between 10am and 5pm between 1 May and 30 Sept.

Apart from the punishing hairpins soon after the Snowdon Ranger station and another series of zigzags just beyond Llyn Ffynnon-y-gwas, the Ranger Path is a steady, immensely enjoyable way to ascend Snowdon by bike. Just remember the summer ban on bikes on the mountain between 10am and 5pm
