          Here is the entrance to the Hexenpfad via the rock formation known as the Hexenküche. Nice to climb and when you climb up the first rock around the back, there is a bench there. The route to the further witch trail is not always clear here. If in doubt, just keep to the south-west.

                      On October 31, 2021, we went on a fundraising hike in favor of HERZENWÜNSCHE dressed up as witches and warlocks (8 people) and were able to collect over €800 for the children. At this point, many thanks again to everyone who contributed to this great result!

                                    The Tecklenburg witches' path is an official hiking trail with fabulous stations, particularly suitable for kids who are enthusiastic about climbing.
                                    The starting point is the "Haus des Gastes" on the market square. From here follow the witch sign: through the Legge in the direction of the castle. The path is well marked and leads past 5 sights belonging to the Witches' Path (S1-S5).

                                    S1 is the "Krönchen", the eastern castle ruins of the old Tecklenburg. Despite several sieges, the castle was never conquered and destroyed. The fact that only remains of walls remain is because the old defensive castles were no longer necessary due to the development of more modern weapons. So they were used as a quarry for new houses in the protection of the old castle complex.

                                    S2 is the tower. It was erected in 1884 as the first monument in Germany for a fighter against witchcraft. Johannes Weyer (Jan Wier) was a doctor and a courageous fighter against the witch's hammer even at the time of the witch hunts. He died in Tecklenburg on February 24, 1588.

                                    The further path leads past vines. 100 of them were planted on May 14, 1987 here on the Tecklenburg Castle Hill by the then Wine Queen. The Counts of Tecklenburg last cultivated wine here in the Middle Ages. So it is not surprising that the adjacent street is called "Am Weingarten".
                                    We cross this and descend steeply into the witch's kitchen with the witch's dance floor and the devil's tracks in the cliffs. (S3) On the back of the rock formation it goes up again, a little along the road and then left into the rocky steps.

                                    S4 is Roelant's grave. This is probably an old burial chamber of the Roelant family from Gut Hülshoff in Tecklenburg, which was carved into the sandstone. Door hooks at the entrance suggest that the burial chamber used to be closed with a heavy door. Gruesome stories were told, probably to keep youngsters away from this place.

                                    S5 is the Heidetempel (rock). It's already bewitched - where is the photo of the two niches in the rock of the pagan temple? The knife for killing the sacrificial animals is said to have been in the smaller upper niche, and a bowl for collecting the blood is said to have stood in the larger niche below.
