The Gryfitów Bridge was built right next to the First Polish Army Bridge, which was decommissioned and scheduled for demolition. The old bridge was closed on August 18, 2008. Nine days later, on August 29, the new crossing was officially opened to traffic. The Gryfit Bridge on the Regalica River is 227.50 m long and leads from the left-bank part of the city via the Poznań Motorway to the right-bank part. The name of the bridge was chosen by the inhabitants of Szczecin in a competition announced in 2008 by the Mayor of Szczecin in cooperation with PR Szczecin and Gazeta Wyborcza.

Regalica (until 1945 German Groβe Reglitz, after 1945 Rgilica) – the name of the eastern branch of the Oder, valid below the part of Szczecin – the Key to Lake Dąbie.

Between Regalica and the main stream of the Oder there is an area called Międzyodrze. It is connected to the Western Oder by: Skośnica, the artificial Leśny Canal, Parnica and many canals on Międzyodrze.
Regalica receives part of the waters from the Eastern Oder and flows into Dąbie. Further on, the waters pass through the Czapina, Babina and Iński Nurt canals to the main course of the Oder.
The section of the river at the height of Zdroje has been changed the most, the current part called Martwa Woda was formerly part of the island of Siedlińska Kępa, and from the former stream, partially covered, there is a bay called Stara Martwa Woda.
