During a flood on April 6, 1808, the bridge collapsed. With the help of French pioneers, local craftsmen managed to erect a wooden emergency bridge on the remains of the bridge piers in good time, so that the connection could be opened again in May 1808.

Since then the bridge has been called the Franzosenbrücke. On the one hand, because French troops were involved in the reconstruction and, on the other hand, because there was a French guardhouse in front of the bridge, which had been built to protect the bridge and where a road toll was levied on passers-by.

The Innerste Bridge is a historical gem.

The Innerste Bridge (stone arch bridge) between Hohenrode and Ringelheim is a historical gem. The vernacular calls the bridge "Franzosenbrücke", which probably comes from the times when the Salzgitter area was a war zone (1757-1761) and a French occupation area (November 1806 - August 1807, and from then until the end of 1813).
