The gastronomy of the HochwaldAlm Wadrill is currently (6/2019) not leased.

The power supply at the HochwaldAlm is currently being upgraded, which is why the gastronomy is not being leased for the time being.

For hikers there is still a possibility to stop very close by. The Harteichhütte is open on Sundays and public holidays.

Addendum:
The HochwaldAlm has had a new tenant since June 5th, 2020!

The opening times are daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday is rest day. Reservations are accepted on 06871 507170 or on 0170 7438629.

The Hochwald-Jungvieh Alm, the only real Alm of its kind in Saarland, will be open again this Saturday. Located in the forest on the road between Wadrill and Kell in Rhineland-Palatinate at an altitude of about 565 meters, the alpine hut was used from 1955 until the end of the last century in the summer months primarily as pasture for better rearing of cattle.

The Hochwald-Jungvieh alm, the only true alpine pasture of its kind in the Saarland. Located in the forest on the road between Wadrill and Kell in Rhineland Palatinate about 565 meters high, the alpine hut served since 1955 to the end of the last century in the summer months mainly as pastureland for better rearing of cattle. It therefore represents Wadriller's local history. However, the pasture is barely used for agriculture today. Rather, the farm building has become a cozy summer economy for many years, is affected by some popular hiking routes such as the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig and Almglück, has become a tourist gem now an interesting place to stay for hikers, riders and cyclists.

The alpine hut is such a beautiful place, but unfortunately the menu is very limited and not very inviting. You expect a lot more from such an ambience. The apple juice spritzer comes from a bottle with a screw cap, there is no glass with it, that's just impossible. That's why there was so little going on for a Sunday. Due to the illness of the landlord, the menu was only available from the fast oven. But then the landlord sat on the terrace and smoked! It's a shame, you could make a gold mine out of the restaurant.........

The Hochwaldalm is idyllically situated in the countryside – a place for regional cuisine, panoramic views, and sometimes even animals. Unfortunately, it was still closed when I visited – I was there early. But the terrain alone is worth the short stop.

💡 Tip:
If you arrive later in the day, you can sit outside here if the weather is nice and round off your tour with a break. Check opening times beforehand!
