The electrification of Munich - like today's drinking water supply for the Bavarian capital - is inconceivable without close cooperation with the communities in the region. Because at the turn of the 20th century, the steadily growing city could no longer meet its needs for electricity and clean drinking water within the city limits and was therefore dependent on the development of the corresponding resources in the region.

Environmentally friendly electricity for Munich has been generated in Vagen since 1913. After various renovations, Leitzachwerke 1 and 2 are now modern pumped storage power plants that, as electricity batteries, make an important contribution to the energy transition: When the wind blows strongly or the sun shines intensely, they can temporarily store the excess electricity produced and then when the breeze subsides and clouds pull it up, put it back on the net.
