A colostrum is a village square. Originally it was the place where rushes grow. A colostrum pool is a communal drinking pool for the livestock. The Biesthof is on the corner of Bankstraat and Steenhofstraat. In 1474 they had two houses here. The house was built by Jan Creytsaerts in 1647, the stone above the entrance door indicates this year. His son Jan Creytsaerts also sold the Biesthof in 1679 to the 1st Prince de Rubempré. At the end of the 17th and early 18th century, the Biesthof was expanded with the adjacent horse stable and with a cowshed, which formed an L with the house. A brewery was also attached to this leasehold. In 1723 there was also a comb or brewery. At the end of the 18th century a new barn was built parallel to the house. The Graven de Merode leased the leasehold. In 1857 the brass band De Vrede was founded. She now bears the name De Eendracht. De Graven later Prinsen de Merode were honorary chairman of this brass band, which held its rehearsals in the Biesthof. The tenant of the Biesthof, Daniël Vander Haeghen, "Den Ouden Boer" was also the 1st chairman of the brass band. In 1880 the free Catholic school was established here in the stable. In 1909 it was a leasehold with more than 50 ha of land. The Biesthof was sold by the Prinsen de Merode in 1984. The house from the 17th century has been preserved. The horse stable along Bankstraat and the wagon shed with the entrance gate along Steenhofstraat were demolished. New buildings were erected. The Biesthof was given a semi-closed character with an entrance gate in the direction of Lodderhoekstraat.
