In the border triangle of Germany, France and Luxembourg is the wine-growing community Perl. The landscape and views range from the Moselle with its vine-covered runs to the vast fields of the Saargau, rolling hills, colorful orchards and quiet forests. A great view into the border triangle!

The German section of the Way of St. James ends at the border triangle in Perl, if you come from Cologne (including via Prüm, Echternach and Trier) on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. And - despite the Schengen Agreement with freedom of travel and the abolition of border controls - the pilgrim's pass is still an important document on the way :-)

The border square on the Hasenberg

The Perler Hasenberg is one of the most sought-after vineyards in the entire region. It was not without reason that the then King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm II, made claims to the vineyard at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 as part of the territorial distribution. He wanted this good location with its first-class wine to be part of his territory. The current, somewhat unusual, "square" border is due to this wish. As part of the Congress of Vienna, Luxembourg nominally became an independent Grand Duchy, which is linked to the Kingdom of the Netherlands in personal union under the kings of the House of Nassau-Orange. A symbol of the region and its history

The large sandstone with its triangular foundation is a symbol of the border triangle. The three country codes D-F-L are lovingly incorporated into the foundation. The location at the "Dreiländerblick" lookout point was chosen accordingly. The sculpture and the location are to be viewed as a total work of art. Claudio Raffaele's sculpture takes up the motif of the wine-growing quadrangle on the Hasenberg in its design. If you look into the attached stainless steel construction from above, the interior is reminiscent of the branches of a grapevine. The square basic shape corresponds to the strange border line on the Perler Hasenberg. In addition to the symbolic representation of the border triangle and wine-growing, the materials used were also chosen deliberately. The sandstone as a weather-resistant element symbolizes the culture of the region that has grown together over centuries, completely independent of the respective border lines and claims to power in the individual eras. The embodiment of wine-growing using high-quality stainless steel was also deliberately done. The Perler wines are valued by wine connoisseurs as quality wines of a special quality. The Moselsteig Trail starts (or ends) at the border triangle. This long-distance hiking trail runs along the Moselle heights between Perl and Koblenz over a length of 365 km.

During the grape harvest at a winery it is a bit "funny" because some of the harvest assistants sometimes stand in F while the vines are still on D soil.
