Built in 1371, the Lindau Gate was the exit gate on the important trade route to Lindau on Lake Constance and Switzerland. From the large, nine-week siege by the imperial troops and Bayern 1647 witnesses the walled cannonball. In addition to the Westertor, the Lindau Gate was destroyed and then rebuilt in the so-called "garden house style".

The western exit gate was built as early as 1371 as part of the second city expansion on the important trade route to Lindau in Lake Constance and to Switzerland. However, the high Gothic gate tower with its gable roof fell victim to the siege in 1647. Memmingen was besieged for nine weeks by the imperial troops and the Bavarians during the Thirty Years War until the Swedish defenders surrendered. The gate was partially destroyed by the constant bombardment. The cannonball on the west side of the gate also dates from this time
