The water tower in Mannheim-Seckenheim became the elevator museum
rebuilt and thus saved from demolition
There are still 20 water towers in Mannheim today. The oldest and most magnificent, has become the landmark of the city, since 1888 on Friedrichsplatz. The youngest, which was built on an octagonal floor plan from March to August 1911, is the one in Seckenheim. Inside this approximately 38 meter high tower was a cylindrical container made of reinforced concrete, which could absorb 350 cubic meters of water.

According to the information board, the tower was built between 1909 and 1911, was in operation until 1956, was acquired by the Lochbühler company in 1978 and was expanded into a museum between 2010 and 2012. Excerpt from the Lochbühler website: "Since 2002, the tower has housed Germany's only elevator museum with exhibits from the beginning of the 20th century. On the occasion of its 100th birthday, the water tower was extensively renovated from 2010 to 2012 and the museum was expanded to 300 square meters."
