The School of Arts and Crafts was built in 1882 according to a project by Arturo Mélida and Alinari. In the set of buildings and gardens that we currently know, two very clear moments must be distinguished. On the one hand, the building made in 1882 by Mélida, raised over the second cloister of San Juan de los Reyes (destroyed by French troops), and on the other hand, the building that, isolated from the previous one, rises in 1925 on the Convent of Santa Ana, whose chapel is preserved incorporated into the current building. The façade has a double entrance, which is the double face of a flat twinned cube, centering an axial organization as simple as it is rich. On the sides we see the fronts of two bays whose gabled roofs are hidden by a system that consists of raising the plane of the facade so that the angle formed by the roofs is not visible. The colorful composition of the lateral bodies, with brickwork, and the monumental coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs, with the eagle of Saint John, all in glazed ceramic, were used by Mélida himself in the Spanish pavilion at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. from 1889. Brick, stone, glazed ceramic, iron, wood and a whole formal cast of original drawing are the materials used in the facade. Above the entrance, an inscription in "Gothic" handwriting recalls that the School was made "reigning Alfonso XII."
