"I am a Berliner", Kennedy spoke these legendary words in front of the Schöneberg town hall. During the division of Germany, the town hall was a global symbol of the divided city's desire for freedom.

The Schöneberg Town Hall, since 1949 West Berlin's seat of government, official residence of the governing mayor and the Allied liaison officers, as well as the meeting place of the House of Representatives, was considered a worldwide symbol of the divided city's desire for freedom during the German division. It was the political center of West Berlin under governing mayors such as Ernst Reuter and Willy Brandt until reunification, when the Senate and House of Representatives moved to the Rotes Rathaus in the Mitte district.

The first forerunner of the Schöneberg town hall was built on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz in 1874, which was replaced by a new building in 1891/92. The enormous population growth and the constant expansion of municipal tasks caused the city's need for personnel to rise steadily. Schöneberg, which has had municipal rights since 1897, had the New Town Hall built on Rudolf-Wilde-Platz (today: John-F.-Kennedy-Platz) according to plans by the architects Jürgensen & Bachmann, where the first town meeting took place on March 25, 1914.

The Schöneberg Town Hall is most certainly known for the visit of John F. Kennedy and his commitment to the freedom of Berlin. For us citizens still a landmark and historical place. The adjoining park is perfect for leisure activities of all kinds and a beautiful green axis for cyclists and runners. There is a lot going on, consideration is required!
