At the beginning of the last century, two railway lines ran through Rabenstein. Firstly, the "Oberrabensteinbahn" opened in 1897, coming from Limbach via Kändler, Röhrsdorf, Oberrabenstein, to Grüna, and Wüstenbrand where it joined the Chemnitz-Zwickau line, and secondly, the industrial railway opened in 1903, which ran from Chemnitz/Borna via Altendorf, Niederrabenstein to join the Oberrabensteinbahn in the Rabenstein Forest shortly before the forester's house on the way to Obergrüna.
The Oberrabensteinbahn was one of the most scenic routes in the country.
