The approximately 25-hectare Schwerin palace garden is one of the most beautiful baroque gardens in northern Germany. The Schwerin Palace Garden was originally laid out as a pleasure garden based on the French model.

From 1748 it was given its present form. This includes the cross channel, which was created as the centerpiece according to designs by the garden architect Jean Legeay. In the middle of the 19th century, the park was then expanded to include greenhouse gardens, kitchen gardens and the riparian zones based on the English model.

The Palace Garden in Schwerin is considered one of the most beautiful Baroque gardens in Northern Germany. Based on designs by the landscape architect Jean Legeay, the Cross Canal was created as its centerpiece, adorned with sculptures from the workshop of the Saxon court sculptor Balthasar Permoser.
The Palace Garden was expanded around the middle of the 19th century according to plans by Lenné. The basic Baroque structure was retained, while the surrounding area, the greenhouse garden, kitchen gardens, and the riverside areas, were landscaped according to English models. The garden was largely spared from an intended conversion into a public park in the second half of the 20th century. Today, it covers approximately 25 hectares.
Anyone strolling through the palace gardens simultaneously embarks on a journey through the eras of princely garden design. Originally designed as a pleasure garden based on the French model, the stunningly beautiful Baroque garden, lined with avenues, is the focal point of the complex. Rustling arcades and the cross canal lead to the cascades. The symmetry of the sightlines is even continued by Permoser's numerous sculptures.

The extensions to the palace gardens, designed by the famous Prussian garden director Peter Joseph Lenné, also reflect the historical design ideals of stately parks. In the style of English landscape gardens, the Greenhouse Garden
and the southern palace garden, with its hippodrome, maze, and majestic trees, contrast strikingly with the Baroque grounds.

The Schwerin Palace Garden is the annual focus of Schwerin's cultural and garden summer. Whether during the Palace Festival, the Gourmet Garden, or the Palace Garden Festival. This is also home to the open-air stage, where numerous concerts take place during the warmer months against the impressive backdrop of the castle.

Schwerin is a beautiful city. You should definitely visit the Schwerin Castle. The museum visit takes 2 hours. The Orangerie (a beautiful cafe after museum visit to recommend.) The trail Franzosenweg follow to Zippendorf - beautiful beach.I can also recommend the lake cruise.From May the excursion boats return.If you still have time, can make a small boat trip on the Pfaffenteich That's it.

After the death of the popular Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II – the builder of the palace in Schwerin – his son commissioned the construction of a monumental statue. The object was financed through donations. It is considered the only historical equestrian statue in all of Mecklenburg.
The work by Mecklenburg sculptor Ludwig Brunow was ceremoniously unveiled in 1893 in the presence of high-ranking state guests such as Emperor Wilhelm II and Grand Duke Vladimir of Russia, as well as all those of rank and name in the Mecklenburg court nobility. Inspired by the equestrian statues of Roman emperors and the Prussian Elector in Berlin, it was designed in the typical, mostly military style of the late 19th century. The figures of the Grand Duke and his horse stand on a more than 4 m high marble pedestal.
The pedestal is surrounded by allegories of the four sovereign virtues: strength, justice, wisdom, and faith. Two commemorative plaques depict events from the reign of Frederick Francis II—the construction of the new university building in Rostock and the Grand Duke's entry into Schwerin in 1871. The monument survived two wars and two dictatorships with great luck. It escaped being melted down for war purposes, the iconoclasm after the war, and scrapped.
