The approximately 25-hectare Schwerin palace garden is one of the most beautiful baroque gardens in northern Germany. The Schwerin Palace Garden was originally laid out as a pleasure garden based on the French model.

From 1748 it was given its present form. This includes the cross channel, which was created as the centerpiece according to designs by the garden architect Jean Legeay. In the middle of the 19th century, the park was then expanded to include greenhouse gardens, kitchen gardens and the riparian zones based on the English model.

The lake was extended from April to August 2007 by dredging in a southerly direction. The main attraction was a seemingly "floating meadow" due to its position between the lake and a ditch, and its rectangular shape with straight ridges. This is connected by a bridge with the geometrically Robinien planted place on the bank.
