Small hamlet (about 700 inhabitants) of the Municipality of Rosignano Marittimo, Nibbiaia is located, 275 m above sea level, on a hill among the coastal hills south of Livorno.
It can be reached from Livorno via the ss. 1 "Aurelia" and then, with a rather demanding climb from the crossroads of Chioma, both from the sp.10 and sp.11, which connect Gabbro and Rosignano M.mo.
The name of Nibbiaia evidently derives from "nibbio" (kite) and it seems that the village was symbolized by a tree, around which these birds of prey swirled. Born in the Middle Ages from the fusion of different groups of houses of farmers and shepherds, Nibbiaia does not boast important historical monuments or traditions; however its position in the greenery and on a hill exposed to sea breezes and its proximity to the sea make it a pleasant stay; it is also frequented by numerous bikers and hikers thanks to the many ridge paths that reveal it as an important crossroads for local trekking. The nearby lake of Santa Luce is also worth seeing.
In Nibbiaia, or in the surroundings, there is a bar, a restaurant, a church, a general practitioner, a store and some shop, inns, B & Bs or farmhouses, but there are no bank branches or bike workshop.
