The baroque palace "Hohhaus" was built between 1770 and 1778 as the palace of the barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach and has housed the collection of the Lauterbach Museum since 1931, which was founded in 1910.
The most valuable treasure of the Hohaus Museum in Lauterbach is the late Gothic altar of Mary, created around 1480. Another attraction of the museum are the hand-painted wallpapers from China, which Count Carl von Schlitz, called von Görtz, brought back from a trip around the world that he undertook around 1840. Other objects from China and Japan are also on display.
One focus of the museum is the collection of hand-forged locks, fittings, door handles and keys. There is also an extensive collection of weapons.
