On the south side, a beautiful natural path leads along the shore. Unfortunately, there is only one real road on the north side as a continuous path. But at least it's not very busy and it looks like hiking trails are being worked on.

And then, of course, there's the legend of "Vreneli's Garden," the most frequently climbed peak (see picture 9). The story goes that a girl named Vreneli wanted to plant a garden up there. Apparently, higher powers didn't approve, and it began to snow, incessantly. Vreneli is said to have tried to protect herself from the snow with a bowl, but she was snowed in and remained there, along with her little garden. The legend is understood as a reaction to the cooling of the climate from around 1300 onwards: At that time, a significantly colder climate replaced a previously warmer one in several phases, even warmer than today's. This is the so-called "Little Ice Age," which is reflected in stories, glaciers, and sometimes even in our imagination. The firn field (an area of old, multi-year snow) on the summit melted completely in the summer of 2003. Neither Vreneli nor his bowl were found, but the story remains – a subtle reminder of how we humans try to leave our mark even in the high mountains, and how nature sometimes gently, sometimes very clearly reminds us who has the greater stamina.
