The Col de la Madeleine from La Chambre is 19km long with a total drop of 1522m. The average gradient is 8% with maximum gradients of 13.5%. On the north side, the climb is even longer with 24.5 km in length, but it is slightly easier with an average gradient of 6.3%.

It has featured several times in the Tour de France and is one of the toughest climbs in the French Alps.

As far as the absolute height is concerned, the Col de la Madeleine is actually not necessarily "hors categorie". But as far as the height difference is concerned. Starting in Feissons (north side), 1,582 meters in altitude must be conquered, from La Chambre (south side) 1,535 meters in altitude. So there is no such thing as “rolling along easily”. Instead, there are ramps with a gradient of more than ten percent on both sides. The legs may sometimes feel uncomfortable, but the landscape and the views of the Mont Blanc massif, among other things, will thank you for the effort.

crazy area! Take the Madeleine straight over the Chaussy or the "Lacets" to Montvernier... and while you're there... Galibier, Mollard, Croix de Fer, Glandon... and those are just the more popular roads in the area. ..Radlerherz what more do you want!

Within the select group of mountain passes classified as Hors catégorie (HC) is the Col de la Madeleine. A colossus of great hardness that is close to 2,000 meters high and present in numerous stages, it reigns supreme due to its proximity to other ports such as the Galibier, the Col de L'Iseran, the Alpe D'Huez, the Col du Glandon, La Plagne and a few kilometers from the wonderful Lacets de Montvernier.
The port is classified as having maximum hardness on both sides, the longest from Feissons-sur-Isère has 25 kilometers at 6.2% on average. A tremendous colossus that is even tougher when you climb from La Chambre and head towards Bourg-Saint-Maurice with La Plagne in between. This slope of 21 kilometers at 7.38% accumulates ramps of 10% in practically all the kilometers of ascent. A real wall of great background.

A mythical alpine port from the history of the Tour de France. It is highly recommended to climb it on its 3 slopes, all 3 are very hard and long. The panoramic views from the top of the port are wonderful, with a clear view of the Mont Blanc massif on a clear day.
In summer, it is worth having a drink at the bar/restaurant at the top.
