The first tourists (naturalists) came to Riederalp from France, England and Switzerland. Due to the lack of infrastructure, their expeditions were rather tiring and adventurous. So no train led to the height, and nowhere did she receive a hotel or even a restaurant. The naturalists were therefore dependent on the mountain huts of the "cabbage, stone and mountain fools" (as the strangers called the locals). Increasingly, the enthusiastic travel reports of the nature researchers led many people with their enthusiasm and so more and more strangers (tourists) came to the Riederalp. This resulted in 1854, the first hotel on the Rieralp.
Among the inspiring guests was the English financier Sir Ernest Cassel. But he had to give up his usual luxury and therefore worked on the locals until he received a piece of land on the Riederfurka to build his villa. In return, he donated money for the local school.

The World War led to a sudden end of the English aristocracy on the Riederfurka. In 1924, the heirs sold to a hotelier family, which continued to run the hotel for 45 years. In 1969, the company was discontinued. In 1973, the villa was acquired by Pro Natura and they have since been using the villa as a nature conservation center. Guided tours, exhibitions and a beautiful Alpine garden are regularly organized and maintained.
