Opening this bike tunnel through the renovated trail tunnel as part of the 2010 redeveloped rail connection from Larkspur Ferry to Santa Rosa closed a crucial gap in the bike commute to San Francisco.

The Cal Park Tunnel & Pathway is a core connection between Larkspur and San Rafael as part of the still incomplete North-South Greenway. Open 5am to midnight.
Originally constructed in 1884 for rail use, with significant renovations taking place in 1924 and the mid-portion of last century, the tunnel was sealed shut in 1978 after a series of fires and structural collapses. It re-opened for bikers/pedestrians in December 2010 after 30 years of lobbying and being renovated for use by the new Larkspur-Santa Rosa light rail.
The Cal Park Pathway leading up to the Tunnel connects Anderson Drive in San Rafael and the Marin Country Mart in Larkspur with the Central Marin Ferry Connection Project to the south. Bicyclists and pedestrians are completely separated within a tube within the tunnel from the train, and the tunnel includes cell phone access, security cameras, and emergency access points. marinbike.org/news/road/cal-park-hill-tunnel
