City church, Aarau
City church on the rocky outcrop. It was built between 1471 and 1478 in place of a smaller previous church. When Aarau embraced the Reformed faith under pressure from the people of Bern a good 500 years ago, all images of saints and the twelve altars were removed from the church as part of the Reformation. The beautiful rood screen balcony in front of the choir inside the church is one of the remaining witnesses of its Catholic origins.
