Already from 1792 there are records of the small chapel. In 1842 it was noted that the chapel had stood there from time immemorial and was renovated in 1826.
In the eye chapel there was a valuable crucifix that was stolen in 1977. However, the thief was found and the stolen property was secured.
The chapel remained empty for a long time. It was only five years later that a crucifix based on the original was carved, which was inaugurated in 1982.
When the entrance to the chapel was closed with an iron grille after a renovation, the many chapel lovers were disappointed with this lockout. The era of the eye chapel seemed to have ended on the night of June 2nd and 3rd, 1999, when after a storm a large mud flap went off and a huge beech tree fell on the chapel and completely destroyed it.
The importance of the eye chapel to the population was evident when it was immediately decided to rebuild the chapel in its original state.
The eye chapel was the only free access to the medicinal water of Receiving, famous for its medicinal properties, at the time of the Wildbad reception. The water from the eye chapel is the same from which the healing springs were fed. The main components of the mineral water are "carbonated and sulfuric lime, carbonated magnesia, nitric potash and carbonated sodium".
The healing water is said to help against runny eyes, gout, constipation, sterility and paralysis and with the "stupid look". Since the Bad Receiver healing water was primarily known for its healing effects for eye ailments, the chapel got its name "Eye Chapel".
