In the course of the construction work of the Hermann Göring works 1938 and later for the construction of the motorway A1 (Westautobahn) gravel was mined in the area of Pichling. The Pichlinger See is the result of a gravel pit, which has been filled with groundwater and since 1947 serves the bathing pleasures of the people. In the 1950s, tusks of mammoths were found during gravel mining. North of the lake, glacial slopes can be seen.
The lake is located in the south-east of Linz in the district Pichling recreational area. It includes the lake, the green belt with various parking lots, restaurants and food stalls, playgrounds and a campsite.
Circular route: about 3.5 km
Water area: about 31 ha
Green area: about 34 ha
