Open with a bit of luck.

When open, very helpful and informative members of the Landeck Castle Foundation, which has assumed sponsorship of the chapel since 2023, are present.

The Nikolauskapelle is listed and is under the protection of UNESCO. Located in beautiful surroundings and open from May to October: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The St. Nicholas Chapel is located above Klingenmünster, near the Pfalzklinik. It is a listed building and is under UNESCO protection. The St. Nicholas Chapel is a gem of Hohenstaufen sacred architecture in the middle of a park-like landscape. The exact date of construction of the chapel is not known. The date of first mention is 1313.

The Nicholas Chapel was probably built at the end of the 12th century at the latest and is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in the Palatinate. - The Magdalenenhof was built right next to it (probably in the 16th century). However, it has since been demolished (in 1964) and only 2 gateposts remain in the small park by the Nicholas Chapel.

Outside the Nicholas Chapel there are numerous information boards - and lovely benches. On the western edge of this small park (with a lovely view of the Landeck castle ruins!) there are further information boards about 2 personalities (and their descendants) who were born on the Magdalenenhof and are honorary citizens of Klingenmünster:

- Dr. Albert Decker (1883 – 1967), lawyer, ministerial director and senate president at the Bavarian Administrative Court, historian
- Johannes Klein (1845 – 1917), inventor and co-founder of the Frankenthal machine and fittings factory “Klein, Schanzlin & Becker”, today KSB AG”

Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, to whom the chapel in Klingenmünster is dedicated, is - alongside Saint Martin - one of the most popular saints of all. His memorial day, December 6th, is probably known to almost every child in Germany - and far beyond.
On the eve of this day, children used to put their shoes or boots - which had of course been carefully polished - in front of the door so that Saint Nicholas could fill them with gifts during the night. In more agricultural areas, it was also customary for children to also put out a small gift of food for the donkey, Saint Nicholas's mount (according to another tradition, it was a white horse).
