When you are here, it is actually mandatory program to travel through the Weltenburger Enge with the excursion boat and to marvel at it powerfully. The impressive rock faces with such illustrious names as Räuberfelsen, Bavarian Lion and Napoleon's suitcase are absolutely worth seeing. By the way, also for cyclists: Instead of using a bike, it is worthwhile to enjoy the section from Weltenburg to Kehlheim by boat.

The Weltenburg Narrows is an impressive river canyon on the Lower Bavarian section of the Danube between Kelheim and the Kloster Weltenburg. The "Weltenburger Enge" nature reserve, which was placed under protection by King Ludwig I in 1840, is one of the oldest nature reserves in Bavaria. Its heart is the Danube Gorge. The Danube makes its way here for around 5 kilometers through limestone rocks that are up to 70 meters high.
Absolutely worth seeing and impressive.

A nice alternative is the route from Kelheim via the Liberation Hall to Weltenburg and by ship back through the Danube Gorge to Kelheim.
The path leads through the forest (E7) - if you want to enjoy the most beautiful views of Weltenburg Abbey, you should leave the main route at the refuge after about 70% of the way and turn left. Then on the way there are indications of wonderful views of Weltenburg Monastery. The Danube is crossed by ferry or small boats. After visiting the beer garden, you can easily take the boat back to Kelheim. Alternatively, you can also hike along the Danube. Past the Klösterl (unfortunately closed at the moment) to get to the views of the monastery after a short walk up.

If you are nearby, you should definitely walk to the monastery. When the weather is nice you can sit on the pebble beach and enjoy the view of the Danube. The rock walls on both sides are impressive.
