During the Second World War, an action of the resistance took place here, by raiding the motorcade of a high-ranking German soldier. The high Nazi chief unfortunately survived the attack and in retaliation several innocent civilians from surrounding villages were arrested and put to death. This monument is in memory of the attack and in honor of the civilians who died after it.
