The longer and deeper down the water is in contact with the minerals of the adjacent rock, the more minerals are dissolved in the water. This may also have something to do with the content of dissolved CO2, because the more "aggressive" a water is, the more solvent it has. And ultimately it also depends on the host rock itself. Lime, for example, is more soluble than sandstone. Most noticeable in the red color in the area of the source pot.
