Broich Castle is the oldest architectural monument in the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr. Today it houses a museum, beer garden and restaurant, and popular events such as the Christmas market and concerts.

The Sperrburg dates back to 883/884, making it the oldest Carolingian fortress north of the Alps. In later centuries it was expanded into a castle. The castle museum houses an exhibition by the Mülheim History Society, including a three-dimensional model of Mülheim during Napoleon's time.

The Christmas market, which takes place every year in Broich Castle, is particularly popular, as are jazz concerts, knights' festivals and events such as the Medieval Market.

Opening times: Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Admission prices: free admission
Guided tours free of charge on the first Sunday of the month at 4 p.m., otherwise by appointment.
