A tradional and reminiscent of the railroad town of Bebra railway museum with a narrow-gauge museum railway that is operated by the railroad friends Bebra.

The Railway Museum is open every 1st Sunday from April to September and on certain public holidays. Admission is free, donations are welcome, the train rides on the miniature railway are possible for a smaller fee.

Around 1900, Bebra station was extensively expanded. Numerous steam locomotives were housed in the depot. The enormous water demand could no longer be covered by the 1200 m³ grass tank alone, and an extension was necessary. The problem was solved with the water tower built in 1910, with its volume of 500 m³ and the greater height difference to the water cranes on the track area. The tanks were fed from the Fulda pumping station near the Ulfen mill, which was built in 1884 and is around 1.5 km away. In 1984, demolition was threatened, but one year later the town of Bebra bought the tower from the German Federal Railway for 1 DM. The “Bebra Railway Friends” association has designed the water tower as a technical museum. Recommended reading: The water tower in Bebra, Around the Alheimer, Volume 25/2004, pp. 6–11.

Visible from afar, the Bebra Water Tower today recalls the past history of the railway town and Bebra station as a hub and also as a border station during the division of Germany.

A narrow-gauge railway was built around the tower – which is lovingly cared for by the Bebra Railway Friends. The water tower itself houses a railway museum.
