The Egelsee nature reserve is a popular destination for hikers, walkers, bikers and joggers. The lake can only be reached on foot or by bike.
A small jetty leads into the lake and to the diving tower. Swimmers and walkers enjoy the picnic areas and the barbecue area right on the lake.

Although the Egelsee, also known as Ägelseegrieben, barely larger than a pond, he is considered the largest natural lake, which is located entirely in the canton of Aargau (Switzerland). For the region Mutschellen and Limmattal it is known as a popular recreational area.
Especially on the weekends, many people are bathing and barbecuing, especially young residents. On the southeastern shore is also a small diving tower (about 3 m).

The small lake is located in a dense beech forest on the eastern flank of the Heitersberg between the Limmat and Reusstal at 667 m above sea level. M. in the municipality of Bergdietikon. On the west bank it goes very steeply up to almost 800 m high Heitersbergkrete.
The lake can only be reached on foot or by bike. The next station Berikon - Widen on the Mutschellenpass is about 90 minutes away. The entire area is well developed with hiking trails.

The Egelsee (map) is always a feast for the eyes and always enchants its visitors. The legendary Egelsee area near the densely populated Limmattal and Mutschellen is a very popular recreation area and is visited diligently throughout the year. It offers nine fire pits and picnic areas as well as a bathing area with diving tower.

In 1983, the whole area was placed under protection of nature by the municipality of Bergdietikon. It is of national importance and must be preserved in its untouched nature. Please help to protect nature!

A top swimming lake in summer, definitely one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. It has several entry options and even a beautifully designed diving platform. However - due to its location - few sunny berths. It is also worthwhile to hike either relatively early in the morning or towards the evening. During the day, the Egelsee is often heavily populated or even overpopulated.
