Toeppersee
Toeppersee attracts visitors far beyond the borders of Duisburg. Water sports fans will find everything their heart desires here, spread across two lakes. An extensive network of paths and the generous design of the other lawns and planted areas in connection with the water areas open up diverse spaces for the visitor to experience.

The water ski lift is a highlight for active people and spectators. This leisure facility also includes a cafeteria with a beer garden, beach volleyball fields, mini golf course, trampoline and some other games and sports.

southern lake
On the larger, southern lake, you can find sailing boats, surfboards, pedal boats and rowing boats. And here, too, an extensive network of paths with several play and barbecue areas offers a wide range of leisure activities in the great outdoors.
History of the Toeppersee
The "Toeppersee" recreation area is located in the western part of the city of Duisburg between Rumeln-Kaldenhausen and Rheinhausen. Like many lakes on the Lower Rhine, the Toeppersee was created by gravel. Gravel extraction began in the 1920s by the Toepper company and ended in 1978 in the southern lake.
For a long time, hardly any recultivation measures were carried out in the area of the excavated area, until 1965 the municipality of Rumeln-Kaldenhausen and the city of Rheinhausen jointly decided to expand it into a recreation area. The expansion began in 1966 on the bank of Bergheimer Strasse and was continued in the following years with the associated acquisition of land.
To improve the ecological situation, wetlands and natural fallow areas as well as lawns not intended for recreational purposes were created as maintenance-intensive and ecologically valuable meadows. The species-rich planting was mainly done with native trees.
