Just below the Stelvio, the Umbrail Pass is located on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Going up from Santa Maria Val Müstair, you travel 13 kilometers with an average gradient of 8.6%.

The Umbrail is a beautiful pass, even if it is slightly overshadowed by its famous neighbor. A tour from the Vinschgau up the Umbrail, over to Bormio and back over the Stelvio Pass is an absolute dream route that we can only recommend.
It's a bit of a shame that the road is now completely asphalted; until a few years ago, the Umbrail was one of the few remaining road passes that was still gravel. But of course the racer is now much more pleasant to drive - especially downhill!
